our heritage
“Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.” Galations 6:9

The Christadelphian community is world-wide with its beginnings in the United States and Canada in the mid-1800s. The Christadelphians emerged before the civil war and followed on the heels of what the Encyclopedia Britannica calls the Second Great Awakening.

Two major developments enabled the growth of the Christadelphian community in the US and Canada. The first was the US Constitution that guaranteed freedom of religion. The second was the wide use of gas lighting in homes which enabled the hard-working American of the era to go home and study his/her Bible at night. Christadelphian meetings grew up in the US and Canada and soon began in England, Scotland and Wales.

Christadelphians began to migrate to California from the east as well as the English Isles with the first communities established in Los Angeles, Pomona and Santa Barbara. The Los Angeles community came into being in late 1903 with meetings held in rented facilities.

By 1910, there were over 120 people  in the LA meeting in downtown Los Angeles. Our members came initially by migration, but the growth happened because of interest in the message of God as revealed in the Bible. People simply wanted to know the Truth of God’s message as demonstrated by His Son, the Lord Jesus. In 1950, the meeting moved to the city of Bell. Then, 40 years ago, the meeting moved to the current location in Santa Fe Springs after transitioning from rented facilities at the Masonic Hall in Whittier.

Today, some members come from as far as south Orange County, as far north Pasadena and as far east as Monrovia. We have members living close by in Whittier and Downey, but over time, we have “spread out” to other Southern California cities.

Currently, there are 10 meeting locations serving Southern California.

The Christadelphians are on all the inhabited continents.  There are over 50,000 worldwide .  Many languages  are spoken. They are all bound by a common faith (See our FAITH page on this website.)

Being a Bible based body of Christian believers, we emphasize the importance of remembering the Lord [1 Cor 11 v 25; Heb 10 v 25], regular Bible reading and community study of God’s Word [Jn 5 v 39; Heb 4 v 12].

We hold our regular Memorial Service on Sunday which is an essential part of being in Christ. Jesus said that we would know the Truth and the Truth would make us free (from sin and its consequence, death.) [Jn 8,v 32; I Tim 4 v3] We know God’s word through private as well as community study at our meeting place and in homes during the week.

We hope and pray that your interest in reading about us will take you to the next step and will visit us during one of our regular meetings for memorial service, Sunday School or Bible study.

Come for a visit!
